FLY CASTING

Come join the professional guides of Bent Fly Fishing Montana, as they lead you through the basics of fly fishing the beautiful trout streams and pristine lakes of Montana. Loaner fly rods will be available on site the day of the seminars; however, participants are encouraged to bring their own fly rods and reel outfits.

BASICS OF ARCHERY

Join professional archer Nicole Tindale, owner of Flaming Arrow Archery Shop in Kalispell, as she provides the foundation of good archery shooting leading to successful adventures afield. This class is designed to assist the beginner archers develop great shooting fundamentals. Advanced archers are encouraged to bring their personal archery equipment for great tips and instruction by Nicole. Basic bow and arrow set ups will be available for use the day of the seminar.

PREPARING FOR BACKCOUNTRY HIKES

Join instructors Tom Berkley and Chuck Pyles as they walk you through important aspects of preparing for a safe and enjoyable day or extended hikes. Tom and Chuck will teach the importance of what to have in your pack as well as footwear and additional necessary outdoor gear.

MONTANA FUR TRAPPING 101

Join veteran backcountry trapper Ron Ream, as he covers the basic high points involved in successfully trapping predators. Ron will cover the equipment and techniques to help you get started in this time-honored wildlife management tool.

BACKCOUNTRY FIRST AID

Join Racheal Vargas, Montana Health and Safety Training Instructor, as she explains how to provide important backcountry first aid techniques. This class will cover important first aid techniques such as what to do to provide support for a broken bone or how to provide blood stopping procedures while in remote areas of Montana’s backcountry.

WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS SAFETY TRAINING

Join long term Swan Valley outdoorsman, outfitter, and naturalist Tom Parker as he provides a plethora of techniques and tips as to how to safely deal with potentially dangerous wildlife encounters. Tom will describe the important aspects of being bear aware as well as dealing with mountain lions, moose, wolves, and other wildlife species common here in the Swan Valley. Tom will share a lifetime of experience that you will be sure to enjoy as well as learn from.

PROTECT YOUR DOG IN THE WILD

Please join Garry Forman of Montana K9 Safety as he will present an interesting class on how to remove your dog from a trap or snare, how to make a makeshift muzzle with your leash, and how to care for paw/pad injuries.

ONX CLASS

Come join Onx App pro staffer Lake Pickle, as he personally walks you thru the basics of how to utilize and navigate this popular phone application. Lake will have you an Onx pro in no time.

CLASSIC WALL TENT SETUP

Come join noted backcountry sportsman, John Keller, as he and his team walk you thru the basics of setting up a classic outfitter wall tent. John will demonstrate the proper pole cutting and lashing techniques that have withstood the test of time in camps throughout the Bob Marshall Wilderness.

WILDLIFE TRACKS AND SIGN

 Come join Sara Lamar of Swan Valley Connections as she teaches you how to enhance your outdoor adventures by learning how to identify tracks and sign wildlife leave behind. Together you will study the tracks of common animals that call the Swan Valley home and take a short walk to view common wildlife sign such as scat and rub trees.

BACKCOUNTRY STOCK PACKING

Veteran stock packer Colton Dunlap owner of Buck Creek Outfitters of Seeley Lake will once again return with his team of grey mules to teach you and your friends  how to successfully and safely pack livestock for adventurous backcountry trips. Learn how to catch, saddle, manty, and lash mules like a pro.  Colton and the Buck Creek Outfitter team have always made this a fun hands on experience for all.

DUTCH OVEN COOKING IN THE WILD

We once again welcome Johnnie Dunlap co-owner of Buck Creek Outfitters as she brings her vast knowledge of Dutch oven campfire cooking to our annual YOER program. This year Johnnie plans to help you prepare a new array of backcountry campfire favorites such as hearty campfire chili, high country corn bread and delicious Dutch babies for dessert
